No Gravatar

A very and simple and easy guide for those few who are unsure of using bluetooth in Windows 7. Simply follow the screenshots and the steps below.

1) On the lower right of the screen, select the notification with the up arrow symbol, to reveal the full list of options and then highlight the bluetooth icon

not2) Now right click the bluetooth icon to see the available menu options and select Add A Device.

3) Switch on bluetooth on the device you are trying to pair with. On a phone, use the menu and settings screen to do so (refer your product documentation for the phone to do this). If it is a bluetooth headset, or a keyboard or a mouse, make sure that it is in discovery mode. This is indicated by a blinking blue light on the device. In this example, I am pairing a phone.

4) Now, Windows 7 will ask you to enter the passkey it chooses, on the phone, so simply type in the passkey Windows 7 provides, on the keypad of your phone.

5) Once the passkey is accepted, your phone is paired with the computer and you are ready to go. To change settings for various features for your newly paired bluetooth enabled phone, simply go back to the Notification Area, select Show Bluetooth Devices and right click the appropriate icon in that screen, to see the available options.

Thats it!

  • How can you pair a device without using a passcode. I see that there an option but its grayed out and won’t let me select. I need this because I am trying to pair my bluetooth keyboard and its not working.

  • Tony: Apologies for a delayed response. I was away on a vacation. The pairing without a passkey depends on the device. You will need to refer the manufacturers guide for the keyboard and mouse, because it contains the information. However if you can tell me the model in use, I’ll be happy to come back to you with the pairing information.
